Sweet September Sapphires

If you think there’s no rival for the diamond, you probably haven’t taken a look at Kate Middleton’s finger. With the late Princess Diana’s signature sapphire on a very important finger, the new Duchess of Cambridge is bringing the deep blue stone into high popularity.

But then again, so is September. The birthstone of the ninth month, the sapphire is among the most precious of precious stones – and it’s no wonder why. It’s brilliant blue pigment traditionally been associated with healing powers and independent inner intelligence. In fact, some cultures believe that Moses was handed the Ten Commandments on a plate of sapphire.

Not to mention that the sapphire is also the hardest of all gemstones besides the diamond, and is often used to cut other stones or as crystal to guard the delicate face of a watch.

Regardless, if you’re not lucky enough to be the Duchess of Cambridge, if you were lucky enough to be born in September, wear your stone with pride! We’ve got just the one for you.

Weekend for…. Wedding?

Like millions of Americans, you may be headed on vacay this coming weekend. But if you’re taking advantage of that extra day to arrange a romantic weekend proposal for your sweetheart, let’s make sure you’re prepared.

Aside from the obvious (a beautiful sparkler that she can’t say no to), remember the following when planning your proposal:

- Talk to her parents: even parents of the most modern woman will appreciate the consideration you give to their feelings.

- Be creative without being bizarre: She should remember your proposal, but not because it was so weird.

- Drop on one knee: Give your fiancé a throwback to old-time romance. Dropping on one knee will also show her you’re serious and ready for this move.

- Tell her why: Every girl loves flattery and romance, so be sure to tell her why you want to marry her.

Of course, if you’re still having trouble with that sparkler, come see us soon. We’ll get you all set for best weekend of your (and hopefully her) life!

Gold Rush!

If you’ve watched the news lately, you know that stocks are out, and gold is in! And with the current economic conditions, many jewelry owners are looking to cash out on their gold.

We have a better idea. While gold remains much more stable than stock, hang on to that unwanted jewelry – and have us remake it into something you’ll treasure for a lifetime. Have a few pieces you never wear? Keep all the sentimentality of the metal and stone and remake it into something unique and personal.

Tired of holding onto grandmother’s earrings that you never wear? We can help you use the gold and any stones to create a precious piece that encompasses both her original piece and your imagination. What’s a better heirloom than that?

So before you think of selling – think about reworking. It’s not just an economical investment, after all; it’s a sentimental one, too.

Daily Romance 101

Marilyn Monroe said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend and Audrey Hepburn drowned her sorrows at Tiffany’s, but for most people, a daily assortment of lavish jewelry doesn’t exactly fit into their budget – or their partner’s.

And while a beautiful piece is the ultimate sentimental gesture, there’s no need to save all the passion for those special occasions. In fact, you can add a little romance to even the most typical of days. At a loss for ideas? We have some suggestions:

- Make breakfast for your partner (maybe even something besides cereal!)

- Slip a note in his/her jacket or briefcase telling them one thing you love about them.

- Pick a chore your partner usually does and surprise him/her by doing it first.

- Have an impromptu candlelit picnic on your living room floor.

- Reserve a nice hotel for a weekend night – for no reason at all!

- See a chick-flick (guys) or an action movie (gals).

- Have a dance party in your living room.

- Cook a meal together.

- Play strip poker.

- Take turns reading aloud a book together.

Who says all romance has to sparkle? (Although we firmly believe some of it should!)

Green With Envy!

You may not be the jealous type, but the brilliance of the Peridot can make anyone green with envy. That’s why we love August, when the vibrant green-yellow of the Peridot rules the month. And if you know a fiery August baby, this beautiful stone is the perfect birthday gift.

First found in the volcanoes of Hawaii, Peridots are formed by volcanic activity and were thought by natives to be the tears of Pele, the volcanic goddess. Beyond the volcanoes, Peridot has a rich mythology associated with nature. Early Egyptian priests drank from Peridot-encrusted cups believing it would draw them closer to Isis, the goddess of nature. These Egyptians called the stones “the gem of the sun,” due to their fiery brilliance.

Peridots vary in their hues, from a light, yellowy-green to a deeper olive. The stone has long been associated with protection against evil and illness, and signifies strength in individuals as well as within a relationship. Gifting a Peridot signifies happiness within a relationship.

Whether superstitious or just weak for anything that sparkles, the Peridot makes a beautiful August gift. Let us help you create something perfect.

One for the Mama!

If you’re a woman, you know this well: they don’t call it labor for nothing. That’s why we love the growing trend among post-partum couples – push presents.

Sure, that little bundle of joy makes all the pain and discomfort of childbirth worth it – but a sparkly bauble never hurt anyone either. Push presents, generally presented by the new father to the new mother, are sentimental tokens of appreciation for the hardship of carrying a child (and that final “push”).

And like any sentimental occasion, a beautiful piece of jewelry is the perfect gift. I mother’s ring for a new mother, or a charm bracelet etched with your new family’s initials are perfect choices. Or, depending on the new mom, a bit of over-the-top bling can be a refreshing surprise after a few months of drab maternity clothes.

You celebrate life’s other milestones with jewelry. Shouldn’t that include the biggest (tiny) milestone of your life? Come see us today.

Nevada Original

It may not be the “gem state,” but Nevada certainly sparkles in its own right. In fact, Nevada’s own state gem, the black opal, is only found in large quantities in our lovely desert.

Widely recognized for its striking colors and ability to refract light, black opals are plentiful in Nevada’s Virgin Valley, often found in the limbs of pine trees, vertebrate bones, pine cones, and even in sagebrush.

What makes these opals so special (aside from the fact that they’re from Nevada!) is their vivid color – which its ebony backdrop and bold reds, greens, yellows and oranges. These beauties, discovered in the valley in 1906, are a beautiful and stylish way celebrate your heritage. Come on in and we’ll design a piece of Nevada together!
